Pittsburgh NFL League has been built by coaches and volunteers since 2004. The people who show up every Saturday, run drills at training camp, and draft teams on Friday nights are the heart of this organization. Without dedicated adults stepping up each spring, there is no league. If you are someone who loves youth sports and wants to invest in the kids of Western Pennsylvania, PNL wants to hear from you.
Why Coach With Pittsburgh NFL League?
You do not need to have played at a high level to coach in PNL. You need to love kids, understand the game at a basic level, and be committed to showing up consistently. Many of our best coaches started as parents on the sideline who got tired of watching and decided to get involved. Coaching in PNL means you build real relationships with kids over the course of a season. You watch them grow from their first game to the championship. That experience is hard to replicate anywhere else.
What Coaches Do in Pittsburgh NFL League
After the PNL Live Draft on April 17th, each coach sets their own weekly practice day and communicates directly with their team's families. You choose when and where to practice based on what works for your roster. Coaches attend training camp, which runs across four sessions in April, and are expected to lead their team through the regular season into the June 6th championship. The season is structured enough to give coaches direction but flexible enough to let great coaches develop their own culture.
Background Check Requirements
All coaches and volunteers who work directly with players must pass a background check through the BRENTS PA system before the season begins. This is non-negotiable for anyone in a coaching or supervisory role with our players. It is a straightforward process and PNL will walk you through it. The safety of our players is the top priority and the background check is part of that commitment.
Other Ways to Volunteer
Not everyone wants to be on the field coaching, and that is fine. PNL also needs help with training camp operations, draft night logistics, game day setup, scorekeeping, photography, and communications. If you have skills in marketing, social media, event coordination, or photography, those are genuinely valuable to the league. We are always looking for people who want to contribute in a way that fits their strengths and schedule.
The PNL Community
One of the things coaches consistently say about PNL is that the community keeps them coming back. The relationships between coaches, players, and families extend well beyond game day. Coaches who have been with us for multiple seasons often describe the league as one of the most meaningful things in their week during the spring. The organization is built on that culture, and it starts with coaches who care about more than wins and losses.
