HOW IT WORKS
THE ROAD TO THE
NFL FLAG CHAMPIONSHIPS
Every journey starts in PNL league seasons. Here is how a Pittsburgh team earns its way to the biggest stage in youth flag football.
01
JOIN PNL
Register for Spring 2027. Choose Rookie (ages 4-6), Coed (7-14) or All-Girls. No experience needed.
02
PLAY AND GROW
Weekly games at four locations, official NFL FLAG rules, and coaches who teach the game. Scores and stats live in PNL GameDay.
03
WIN YOUR REGIONAL
Regional and travel opportunities are separate from league registration. Win your age division at a regional and your team earns a free bid.
04
GO NATIONAL
Compete against regional champions from across the country at the largest youth flag football tournament in the world.
YOU HAVE TO WIN YOUR WAY IN.
That is what makes it count. It starts with playing in a PNL league season.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
PARENT FAQ
How does my child get to the NFL FLAG Championships?
Teams earn it. PNL teams enter NFL FLAG Regional Tournaments, and the team that wins its age division earns a bid. In 2026 that was the Boyce Park Jets 8U and Steelers 10U.
Does my child need experience?
No. PNL has divisions for first-timers and for experienced players, and Spring 2027 registration is open until March 31, 2027.
What ages and divisions does PNL offer?
Ages 4 to 18: Rookie 6U (ages 4-6), Coed 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U (ages 7-14), and All-Girls 10U, 14U and High School Girls. The age cutoff is August 1, 2026.
What does it cost, and is help available?
$145 per player, or $135 for the first 50 registrations league-wide, with payment plans from $45 down. Families who qualify can apply for the NFL FLAG Grant by March 10, 2027. Learn about financial assistance
Where does PNL play?
Penn Hills on Saturdays, Boyce Park on Sundays, Swissvale on Thursdays and Mellon Park on Fridays. See all locations
How do players get onto regional or travel teams?
Players start by playing in PNL league seasons. Regional and travel opportunities are separate from regular league registration and are based on age group, roster needs, player development, coach evaluation, availability and event fit. Registering for the league does not guarantee a regional/travel roster spot, but it puts players inside the PNL pathway. See PNL Travel Flag
