Flag Football Game Day Checklist for Pittsburgh Parents

Game day is the best part of the week. A little preparation makes it smoother for your player and for you. Use this flag football game day checklist before every PNL game in Spring 2027.

The night before

  • Check the TeamLinkt app for your team's game time, field and any updates from your coach.

  • Lay out the jersey PNL provided. Jerseys are handed out to players whose balance is paid in full by March 31, 2027.

  • Pack the bag (see below) so nothing is forgotten in the morning.

What to pack

  • Cleats. Molded rubber cleats are recommended for ages 7 and up. Soccer cleats work fine. No metal spikes. Rookie League players (ages 4 to 6) can wear sneakers.

  • Mouthpiece. Required for all players ages 7 and up. Not required in Rookie League.

  • Athletic shorts or pants without pockets or belt loops that could catch a flag.

  • Water bottle. Not every sideline has a fountain.

  • A layer for cool mornings. Early season games in April can still be chilly in Pittsburgh. Compression shorts or leggings under shorts help.

Know your field

  • Penn Hills (Saturdays): Linton Middle School, 250 Aster Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15235

  • Boyce Park (Sundays): Boyce Park fields, Pierson Run Road, Plum, PA 15239

  • Swissvale (Thursdays): Dickson Elementary, 7301 Schoyer Avenue, Swissvale, PA 15218

  • Pittsburgh (Friday nights): Mellon Park, 1047 Shady Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232

At the field

  • Arrive early enough for your player to find their coach and warm up.

  • Make sure the flag belt is on correctly with flags hanging freely at the hips.

  • Cheer for effort and hustle from every player on both teams.

  • Let coaches coach and officials officiate. Positive sidelines make better games.

After the game

  • Check live scores and stats in PNL GameDay.

  • Ask your player about their favorite play before talking about mistakes.

  • Rehydrate and get the uniform ready for next week.
